Should Covid-19 Stop Your Video Productions?

In this time of unsure times of Covid-19, many businesses are already shying away from video production. But is this the right action?

In today’s article and video I wanted to discuss what Covid-19 means for our business, what it could mean for your business, what opportunities and alternatives lie out there and how we can help in the terms of free resources.

Video first, then some thoughts.

Times are changing…

It goes without saying that times, in the last few days have changed. Toilet paper flying off the shelves, people isolating and social distancing, constant chatter on the news and social media…. and of course businesses having to adapt working methods on the fly.

Obviously this is a serious matter and we all need to consider our actions, our impact on others in the community and what we can personally do. For businesses, this is no different.

But often our business response is one to pull back and shut down.

Where instead we could be considering how to plan using alternatives. What are our opportunities here?

What Covid-19 means for GINGERBEARD Media

The response from our clients was quick and almost immediate - with almost all of our planned shoots with larger corporate clients being postponed or cancelled.

Interestingly, one corporate cancelled one shoot, but launched two others. Others have asked us to look into alternative methods to communicate and we’ve also had new enquiries from potential new clients.

For the most part we’re now looking to react to this market, taking some of our own advice laid out in the video.

The best description to label this is, as volatile, and for that, you need to adapt.

What Covid-19 means for your video shoots?

It’s easy to get caught up in the negative side of all this, and that isn’t written to take away from the seriousness of the situation. Instead, more that we could look at all the “can’ts”, “shouldn’ts” or “musn’ts” and forget to consider alternatives and opportunities.

So I wanted to take a look at what alternatives and opportunities lie for businesses who are considering what to do about shooting and using video in their business.

Look for the opportunity in the alternatives

For many people, including our clients, we focus on the physical shoot - when cameras are out and rolling. But often we miss consideration for the planning side of things.

With all our video shoots we understand that planning is our foundation to a video. Without correct and thorough planning, that foundation won’t hold up, and like a house, it’s going to collapse.

The markets and industry will recover, so the opportunity here is to be ready for that point. Work with us to plan your video, so that when we are able to shoot, you’re ready to go. You’ve got your script written, we know what shot’s we’ll capture - all the paperwork is complete.

Use video to adapt to change

Video is a great tool to utilise in these sort of times, I mean, sure this is coming from a video production company, but read on and see how this sits.

Firstly, when we shoot videos, a lot of the time we have to plan around how we will capture the scripts/presentation section. Businesses are often noisy and they need the space that we need to shoot in - so it’s hard to capture clean audio.

But with this slowdown/shutdown it could be the perfect time to shoot the scripting part of your business - these typically noisy and busy areas now become available - it’s a great opportunity to shoot without disturbing the business.

Secondly, video is often a great alternative method of communication, especially around change. So as our businesses evolve and adapt to the current situation we need to communicate this - be it to our target market, stakeholders or perhaps, our employees. And the great thing about video is that it’s as close to normal face-to-face communication as we can get.

So start considering how using video in your business - be it pre-recorded or live, to help you business at this time.

The Free Stuff!

Helping businesses shoot video is a massive passion of mine. I love speaking to businesses about how they can integrate using video but often, they don’t need a professional video production company. The videos they want to create are simple, or temporary - the information on them will be out of date shortly.

That’s why I created and run ‘How To Shoot Video For Your Business’ - its a podcast, a youtube series and a free Facebook Group where like-minded business owners get to learn from what we do and come together and support each other on their video journeys.

You can find more on it here:

Recently the series has been a little quiet - towards the end of 2019 we decided in order to ramp it up, we needed to take a step back to consolidate content and then look to publish, and so we’ve got a bundle of episodes ready to go.

However, in current circumstances, and with episodes that I think are really going to help people in this situation - we’re going to push forward and start releasing what we’ve got.

So - if you’re a business owner who’s been looking to shoot and use video to market your business - then this is something worth investigating. So join up, subscribe, follow and all those social media type things - so that you can be notified as soon as it goes live.

And in the meantime - feel free to work through our back catalogue of episodes to bring yourself up to date, or answer that question you’ve always had.

Let’s wrap this up!

So there you have it - Covid-19 shouldn’t be stopping video production - there are plenty of ways to continue getting video to work for your business.

As ever I hope this information and episode has been of use and interest to you. If you have questions on this topic, or something else - feel free to get in contact.

See you next time!

Head Beard Out.
