Lumen Living: Eva & Tony Testimonial
When you’re building Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA), trust matters.
Lumen Living develops high-quality SDA homes, supporting families navigating complex housing needs. For this project, they wanted to create a testimonial-style video highlighting a recent client’s experience - something genuine, personal, and reassuring for future families considering working with them.
We’ve worked with Lumen Living on multiple projects dating back to 2022 as well as other clients in the disability space, so we understood the importance of handling this story with care.
Filming the Story
Filmed over half a day in the Perth metro area, the project centred around an interview with Eva, whose family had recently built an SDA home with Lumen Living.
Before filming, we conducted a pre-interview with Eva and her husband Michael. This allowed us to understand their journey, identify the key themes, and develop thoughtful interview questions to help guide the conversation naturally on the day.
The logistics required careful coordination.
Their son Tony, who has a disability and limited communication, was central to the story. We structured the filming schedule around his routine — capturing his morning activities first. Once he headed out with his carers, we filmed the main interview with Eva. When he returned, we resumed filming overlay footage with Tony and his carers to visually support the narrative.
This approach ensured the experience was comfortable and stress-free for the family while still giving us the footage we needed.
Creative & Technical Approach
Testimonials can’t be scripted — they have to be explored.
You can prepare, ask the right questions, and create the right environment, but ultimately the story unfolds in the interview itself and is shaped later in the edit.
Because of this, testimonial projects are often overshot, with more material captured than will ever make the final cut. That’s why strong overlay footage is essential - it allows the story to breathe visually and avoids relying too heavily on talking heads. It’s also how we cut around interviews so that the story flows.
In this case, we were especially mindful of the filming environment. Working with a person with a disability requires patience, flexibility, and respect. We worked closely with the family throughout the day to ensure filming remained calm and positive.
In the edit, we focused on the core emotional arc:
The difficulty of finding suitable SDA housing
The uncertainty and stress involved
The relief and positive experience of working with Lumen Living
The result was a story that felt authentic, not staged.
What We Delivered
At the completion of the project, we delivered:
One main testimonial video, primarily for website use
Three short social clips designed for use on online platforms
A series of 45 screengrab images from the videos, for use
This gave Lumen Living both a hero piece and shorter promotional assets to use across their digital channels.
The Outcome
The impact of the video extended beyond its initial purpose.
The testimonial was so well received that another company involved in Eva, Michael and Tony’s journey requested a re-edit so they could use a version tailored to their audience.
Lumen Living now uses the video across their website and social media to help reassure future families that they are in capable and caring hands.
Let’s Wrap This Up!
When a project involves real families and real challenges, the responsibility is greater — but so is the impact.
If your business relies on trust, sometimes the most powerful marketing asset isn’t a scripted brand video — it’s a genuine story told by someone who’s lived it.
