Cystic Fibrosis Western Australia (CFWA)

Today, we're dropping into the GINGERBEARD Media Archives to talk about one of our bigger projects from 2016. Some might call this a #ThrowbackThursday blog post.

Anyway, back in July of 2016 we started work with Cystic Fibrosis WA on a production which ran over 6 weeks, ultimately delivering 6 cooking videos.

For those who aren't in the know, Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is often heavily and successfully managed through diet, and so our brief from Dietitian Paul O’Neill leading the charge on behalf of Cystic Fibrosis Western Australia (CFWA) and Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH), was to deliver a series of cooking videos that would help educate those with CF manage their symptoms through diet.

Each of the 6 videos would have Paul cooking and presenting and each week he would be joined by a new guest chef. These guest presenters/chefs would not only help with presenting the episode but also provide a unique insight into the CF world, as many were in fact CF'ers themselves.

With the project complete, CF Cooking now kindly provides these videos for free. Meaning that CF'ers around the world can use these cooking videos to help them lead a healthier life. It's a fantastic free resource.

You can find all of the finished videos below.

In this episode we focus on recipes with healthy fats Our special guest is Jordyn who is a serious 'foodie' and worked as an apprentice chef. The traditional CF diet recommendation is a high fat diet. However a calorie of healthy fat is equal in energy to a calorie of take away food.
This this episode we look and some great ways to refuel your body when you're exercising The guest for this video is Rhys. He has played a lot of sport growing up and found it difficult to gain weight.
In this episode we focus on exercise and maintaining salt and fluid levels The guest for episode 5 is Sophie who has travelled internationally, trekked the jungles of Sumatra and regularly enters sports events. The recommendation for a high salt diet is opposite to the non CF diet recommendation.
In this episode we look at cooking for someone with CF when not everyone in the family has CF Our guest for this video is Michael who has CF, CF related diabetes and shares meals with his wife and daughter.
In this episode we focus on some quick healthy recipes for tired busy people Our guest this video personifies busy. Mitch is involved in a number of organisations and is CEO of Clan WA. Nutrition is paramount in the health of people with Cystic Fibrosis.
In this episode we give some classic recipes a modern twist The Guest for episode 6 is Alex who loves food but has found it difficult to eat enough to maintain her weight or her iron levels. This is a collection of classic recipes that are reinvigorated with a modern approach.

Behind this project stood a larger than normal production team for our video projects - two camera operators, one sound engineer and a director. And this was needed due to the size and complexity of the project.

As anyone who has stepped into a kitchen, timing is everything, so imagine trying to cook to a timeframe... but also have a film crew reliant upon those timings - talk about pressure!

But whilst Paul may have felt the pressure cooking to a tight schedule, it also worked similarly for the film crew - often dishes or methods of cooking needed to be captured first time, with no second chances.

Needless to say, this production kept everyone on their toes!

This project provides a great example of how GINGERBEARD Media can provide scalability in its productions. In this case we were reliant upon working with fellow local production house Myriad Images in the delivery of this product for CF Cooking. Their expertise and dediction really helped to bring this production together.

If you want to find out more about behind the scenes, then Head Beard Bruce provides some insight in this video:

Today I thought I would show you behind the scenes of a shoot we're wrapping up next week. What equipment we use, challenges we've faced and how the shoot fits together.

Hopefully this post has provided some insight into our recent production, as well as information on GINGERBEARD Media's ability to scale up on its productions.

If you would like more information on CF Cooking, including the recipes in the videos, then head over to their website.

And as ever, if you're interested in having a chat about how our small or large team could help your business to use video, please feel free to get in touch- we're always happy to talk about video!
