His Royal Highness Watches

Recently we were emailed by the team over at the Duke of Edinburgh's Award; they had seen our video for Youth Focus and wanted to show a highlight version of the film we produced as part of a presentation to a number of Perth notables as well as High Royal Highness; Prince Edward.

We were challenged to take our original film from 7 and a half minutes down to 2 and a half so that it would fit in in their presentation ceremony to be held at Frasers in Kings Park, Perth. A highlight reel, from the highlights? Nothing like a challenge to peak our interest.

Youth Focus - Kokoda Trek

Through June this year we posted up on our Facebook page a request for people to nominate a charity that we could work with. It was part of our 'give back' philosophy - that organisations and companies should give back into the community.

Youth Focus; a West-Australian, not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the aim of supporting young people and their families to overcome the issues associated with suicide, depression and self-harm, was nominated by a few people and lead them to contacting us about helping them.

They had a group of young people heading over to walk the Kokoda Trial and it would be filmed by themselves - could we help by editing what footage they captured on Go Pros they had been donated.

By the end of June I was standing in front of said group delivering a seminar / lecture on how to get the best from these cameras whilst they were out walking the trail.

And yesterday afternoon I attended a closing ceremony summarising their journeys to a successful completion of a roughly 100k trek of Kokoda and thanking those who had provided support and assistance.

As a result of our support we are now the very proud holders of a Youth Focus framed Kokoda photograph commemorating their journey - so for those that nominated Youth Focus we thank you; it's been a great opportunity to work with a local charity who does some truly valuable work.

It was amazing to see what this journey has done for these young people and what it means to their families, despite all the hours put into editing the video, I'm not sure it has done what they completed justice. We are however hopeful that at some point when they look back, this will provide them with strength and some happy memories of their journey.

Now... to find some wall space to hang up the photo!

GINGERBEARD Media at Youth Focus Talking About Go Pros

As part of our business structure and commitment to working within the local community, you may already be aware that we try and work with not-for-profit and charitable organisations.

One not-for-profit organisation who has kindly invited us in to work with them is Youth Focus.

Youth Focus is a West Australian organisation that aims to put a stop to youth suicide. They are a unique organisation that supports vulnerable young people in Western Australia by offering a range of mental health services. Their team of highly trained and skilled psychologists, social workers and occupational therapists to provide a range of early intervention and prevention services free of charge, aimed at supporting young people and their families to overcome the issues associated with suicide, depression and self harm.

In a few weeks time 10 young people and 3 people from Youth Focus will head over to Papua New Guinea to tackle a 10-day trek of the Kokoda Trail. It will be a massive personal journey for them to undertake and complete.

So how is GINGERBEARD Media involved?

Well, Youth Focus have been kindly provided with 10 Go Pros, however they need someone to pull the footage together when they return. So we offered our services.

But upon chatting with the organisers, we also decided that it was worthwhile running the hikers through all the basics of the camera so that the guys could capture the best footage they could.

So we headed over to meet them and run them through an hour long info session - which you can find recorded below.

We wish those making the journey our very best, we can't wait to see what footage and stories you come back with!
