Guide Dogs WA - Puppy Fundraising Update

The Covid-19 shutdown in WA has effected many businesses, and in a lot of different ways.

For Guide Dogs WA, it meant that they could no longer take to the streets to raise funds for their programs - specifically to raise money to help raise and train a new set of guide dogs.

Instead, Guide Dogs WA decided they would take to the digital space to help raise funds from their support base. But they also recognised that, as part of the process, they wanted to update and thank those who had donated.

They asked us to capture an interview-based story that would help keep their donors engaged and up to date. This is what we stepped in to help create.

Not Everything Runs to Plan

This project was one of our first ‘return to work’ post-covid-19 and not everything runs to plan. The weather postponed our shoot 3 times and when we did get to shoot, puppies being puppies understandably meant that we could only spend a limited time shooting the dogs before they got tired, distracted and needed to head home. But as with all our shoots, we worked within the limitations that occur to get the best that we can for our clients and thier projects.

Originally, the plan was to capture all the interviews through a question and answer session, but after review, the client decided that communication from Guide Dogs WA needed specific tailoring and so we moved to a specific scripted/teleprompted setup.

Changes like these are uncommon, but can happen - it is one of the cons of running unscripted interviews - they often require more work to bring a storyline together in post-production.

Despite the shoot taking more time than originally planned, we were successful in keeping the client’s budget on track;- as having scripted interviews saved us time in edit.

This project is a great example of how we work collaboratively with clients to achieve their vision.

This project changed a lot over time due to logistical challenges but our collaborative and flexible approach means that we continue to create something that meets the client’s vision and gets results.

In this case, the video went live some weeks ago, and the client is still receiving positive feedback on it.

If you’d like to work with a collaborative and flexible video production team on your next project - we’d love to have a chat.
