Zip Bar - Product Photography

We were contacted by Dean, owner of Zip Bar Australia when he looked to capture a series of photos which would be primarily used in his product catalogue.

Zip Bar is modular bar system designed for easy assembly and pack down. The bars are contained within easily movable and storable flight cases. Zip Bars target market really focuses on venues and events.

Zip Bars wanted a clean approach to their product photos so that their clients could see clearly understand pricing breakdowns for each component.

We hit the studio to capture images for Zip Bar’s new product catalogue.

We had two main challenges with this project.

Firstly - the scale of this product.

These bars, as you can imagine, are of a decent size. They aren’t a small product to photograph; - so we needed to find a studio that would house them. The single units are not too large, but when we built the units out to 3, 4 or 5 in length we were really pushing the size limits of the studio.

Our studio choice was not only based on size of the product, but also that we could utilise a seamless whitewall - so as to help with editing the final images to a high standard;- making sure they sat on ‘all white’ backgrounds.

Due to these logistics, a number of the images have been manipulated in post to ensure a seamless white background.

The other challenge we had was mirrors and reflective surfaces.

Obviously mirrors reflect, but in the final images we don’t want to show the rear side of the studio - this isn’t a 360 degree white-walled studio. So after some testing, we removed the mirrors and then photoshopped a mirror surface back in for the final images. This is the same process as you’ll find for mainstream product catalogues like k-mart and target.

From a day’s shoot we created 141 images for Zip Bar to use primarily in their product catalogue, but also website and social media.

Working in a studio can definitely increase the production quality and value of your product, which can help you . However it is not without its challenges, especially when you move to shooting larger objects.

If you’re looking for photography for your product, brand or service then we’re always happy to chat, just get in touch.
